PAST EVENTS
In the pursuit of bringing #somuchgood to the world, our members have participated in dozens of virtual running events that have carried them over twelve million miles, and earned over $2,200,000 for small non-profit charities around the world.
Each event has its own individualized theme, a beautiful custom medal, and most importantly, a charity partner specific to that event. Below are the events we’ve conducted in our running seasons since 2014, the challenge medals that culminated each season, and details on the charity partners who received the proceeds.
As we like to remind people, these are more than medals: they are works of art; they are badges of honor; they are reminders to our members that they have been a part of something exceptional that has made the world a better place.

We couldn’t be more pleased to announce that the Winter 2020 DIP will be supporting Noah’s […]

2020 Summer Virtual Direct Impact Project
โ๏ธย ๏ธThe RTI Summer Virtual DIP 2020ย โ๏ธ Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had made the decision to cancel our physical Direct Impact Project for Summer 2020. This did not mean we had to cancel the concept of directly impacting local organizations, nor the opportunity to support our past charity partners during this time. Undesirable No. 2 (It’s a 10k)
We have to flush ourselves in? The Potterhead Running Club is pleased to present the second event of the 2020 season: Undesirable No. 2! (It’s a 10k) Our seventh year continues with the infiltration of the Ministry through the โstandard employee entranceโ — the Whitehall underground public toilets — that the Trio used during their hunt for horcruxes. Disguised as Hopkirk, Cattermole, and Runcorn, they managed to get Slytherinโs Locket, free multiple Muggle-borns awaiting trial, and reclaim Moody’s magical eye […]

Ironbelly 7k
โAnd they turned a corner and saw the thing for which Harry had been prepared, but which still brought all of them to a halt.โ The Potterhead Running Club is pleased to present the first event of the 2020 season: Ironbelly 7k! Our seventh year begins with the trioโs thrilling escape from Gringotts and the freeing of the Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon who had been forced to guard the lowest vaults. Your registration includes this attention-grabbing 3″ ‘clanker’ (a real bell!) […]

2019 Winter Direct Impact Project
As is the custom during any Direct Impact Project we challenge our community with, the goal numbers have been blown away! We tasked the members of our multiple Fanthropy Running Clubs to accumulate a goal of 200,000 diapers to assistย The National Diaper Bank Network in getting supplies to areas around the United States where they are in the most need. We only gave them three weeks to do so, and then put the Herculean task upon a team of volunteers […]

Felix Challenge
TIME TURNER 2019 The Felix Challenge Medal This incredible 4″ medal features a SPINNING Felix Felicis vial / quill nib! The distance for this event is equal to the other six events for the year, so it’s 55.75k or 34.64 miles! You are not supposed to do this distance in one go and are fully expected to break up the distance into more manageable segments. The 2019 Time Turner event is our way of “turning back the clock” to reopen […]

Platform Year Six
We came back to the Platform for 2019! Our annual nine-and-three-quarter-kilometer virtual running event returns to celebrate Harry’s sixth year with a beautiful medal representing his adventures getting back to Hogwarts. No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, the medal isn’t ‘missing’ a piece…it’s just partially covered by an invisibility cloak! Registrations included the awesome 3″ medal, custom sublimated ribbon, and personalized digital bib!โฃ […]

A Quick Pygmy Up 5k
Potterhead Running Club is pleased to present our fifth event of 2019: ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐๐ค ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ฆ๐ฒ ๐๐ฉ ๐๐ค! For our fifth event of 2019, we’re celebrating one of Fred & George’s greatest (and definitely the cutest) creations: The Pygmy Puff! Bred as miniature versions of Puffskeins, Pygmy Puffs became something of a craze in the wizarding world. They are known for eating anything from leftovers to spiders. The most well-known Pygmy Puff was the one Ginny bought and named Arnold. Your […]

Pensieve 10k
Potterhead Running Club is pleased to present our third event of 2019: ๐ซย The Pensieve 10k!ย ๐ซ For this event, we’re diving into the mysterious magical object used by Hogwarts headmasters (and Harry, of course) to examine and re-live memories. Legend has it that the founders of Hogwarts found the Pensieve half buried in the ground, and supposedly one of the reasons the school was located in such a remote location. In the dark days leading up to the Second Wizarding War, […]

Slug Club Armchair to 5k
Potterhead Running Club is pleased to present our second event of 2019: The Slug Club Armchair to 5k! Professor Horace Slughorn is a wonderfully complex character and proof that while a Slytherin might desire power and influence, they can also be chivalrous and selfless. Despite the fact that he was born in a pure-blood family (one of the so-called “Sacred Twenty Eight”), he wasn’t prejudiced against half-bloods and muggle-borns and frequently “collected” those students into his “Slug Club” if they […]

2018 Winter Direct Impact Project
Over the last three years, the Witches and Wizards of Potterhead Running Club have come together to donate scarves, socks, coffee, animal shelter supplies, humanitarian aid items, and, of course, a whole lotta bandages! Itโs time to make some magic again! There is no specific charity beneficiary for this Direct Impact Project (DIP) like we had for bandages (Noahโs Bandage Project) or humanitarian aid (Carry the Future). This DIP is all about showing strangers kindness with a simple, but incredibly […]

Platform Year Five
Our annual event returned to celebrate Harryโs fifth year returning to Hogwarts! We revamped the look, and added beautiful new artwork representing Harryโs adventures: the Dementor attack; the Howler; facing the Wizengamot (and Umbridge); his very first trip to 12 Grimmauld Place. The Hogwarts Express takes children home. It took an orphan homeโฆand we set out to do the same! HRC was humbled to announce the charity partner for this event is RODS โ Racing for Orphans with Down Syndrome. […]

Royal 10k
The fifth event of 2018 was the Royal 10k. Dumbledore wasn’t the only one who had “style”. The future Minister for Magic was a critical member of the Order of the Phoenix, Kingsley Shacklebolt! One of the greatest Aurors ever, he helped keep Sirius’ location a secret from the Ministry, saved the members of the DA during the Battle of the Dept of Mysteries, and bravely fought at the Battle of Hogwarts. After Voldemort came to power, he went into […]

2018 Summer Direct Impact Project
Noah Wilson was diagnosed with cancer in April of 2014 at the age of six, but never let it change his passion to help others. He always had a huge heart and was constantly looking for ways to help people. His love for others did not change even when he was facing a devastating diagnosis. When his treatment began, he found himself getting pokes almost daily. The hospital where he was being treated did not have ‘cool’ bandages, leaving the […]

Half-Giant Half Marathon
Our fourth event of 2018 was the Half-Giant Half Marathon, dedicated with love to the gamekeeper with a huge presence and an equally huge heart. Toucan Rescue Ranch (TRR) focuses on the care, rehabilitation and study of Costa Rican wildlife including toucans, owls and sloths! TRR receives and cares for confiscated, sick and […]

Forgotten 5k
Our third event of 2018 was in honor of our most unlikely hero, Neville Longbottom. Despite the losses he suffered, Neville never forgot about the power of family. With this firmly in mind, our charity partner for the third event of 2018 was theย Hispanic Federationย andย Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Immigrants: We Get the Job Done Coalition,ย specifically chosen to support the Coalition’s ‘Keeping Families Together Initiative’. All Coalition members work to keep immigrant children and families safe and together. This is a huge undertaking, […]

DA 5k
The second event of 2018 was the DA 5k. Facing impossible odds, the students in D.A. came together to change their future. In January of 2016 the world mourned the loss of Alan Rickman, and we decided to honor himย by running for Debate Mate, a charity Alan enthusiastically supported. Many young people face an uncertain future simply because they are growing up in poverty. By the age of seven, children growing up in poverty are more than twice as likely […]

Nargle 9k
We began the 2018 season with the Nargle 9k. Luna warned us of dangers that could not be seen! There are people going through a battle with AIDS, and we have their backs: our charity partner for this event was Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA). BC/EFA helps men, women and children across the country and across the street receive lifesaving medications, health care, nutritious meals, counseling and emergency financial assistance. In the ultimate example of Transfiguration in the Muggle World, […]

Quidditch Challenge
The 2017 Quidditch Challenge This HUGE 5โ medal celebrates Year 4โฆthe year without Quidditch at Hogwarts, but it was also the year Bulgaria and Ireland faced off in the finals of the Quidditch World Cup! ASOC is a global network of conservation organizations seeking to preserve the world’s last great wilderness, which belongs to […]

Eternal Glory 4 Miler
Our fifth event of 2017 was the Eternal Glory 4 Miler. This medal highlights the intense competition between Durmstrang, Beauxbatons, and Hogwarts, along with those four drawn from the goblet who would compete for Eternal Glory! The charity partner for this event was Back on My Feet (BoMF). If you think a dragon, a lake and a maze are tough, think about the difficulties of overcoming homelessness. BoMF’s mission is to revolutionize the way our society approaches homelessness. Their unique […]

Sirius Half Marathon
Our fourth event of 2017 celebrated one of the most beloved characters from the wizarding world, and our dearest Padfoot: Sirius Black. A devoted friend, loving godfather and talented wizard, Sirius rejected ‘pure-blood’ mania, and chose to do what was right. Our charity partner for this event was Mission K9 Rescue. MK9R’s mission is to rescue, reunite, re-home, rehabilitate, and repair any retired working dog that has served mankind in some capacity. They believe these heroic canines have earned and […]

Unmasked 10-Mile Run For Your Life
Our third event of 2017 was one of the darkest (and admittedly coolest) ever…the Death Eaters. …but our purpose is to remove stigmas and save lives! Our charity partner for this event was To Write Love On Her Arms – a charity dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire, and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery. We are pleased to announce the Unmasked […]

The 10K and S.P.E.W.
Our second event of 2017 honored the beloved House Elves who have served the Wizarding World for centuries…especially our favorite house elf, Dobby! The 10k and S.P.E.W. was run in support of the Harry Potter Alliance (HPA). Hermione just wanted to do some good in the world. She was determined to make life better for House Elves working in Hogwarts Castle, and throughout the wizarding world. Her compassion for their well-being and her support of their freedom demonstrated her leadership […]

Constant Vigilance 5k
Our first medal of 2017 honored one of the most beloved characters in the Wizarding World — Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody — and featured a MOVING eye-ball medal! Moody never let his injuries stop him. Moody fought valiantly in both the First and Second Wizarding Wars, and captured many dark witches and wizards…but at a cost. He lost a leg, an eye and part of his nose in carrying out his duties as an Auror for the Ministry of Magic. It […]

King’s Cross Challenge
2016 King’s Cross Challenge This beautiful medal features Harry’s final conversation with Dumbledore following the destruction of the final horcrux…the one Voldemort never intended to make. The front of the medal is the front of the Express, and the back features Harry’s adventure getting to Hogwarts in his third year…and it’s a spinner medal! Harry, as a one-year-old infant, became the last refugee of the First Wizarding War and ended up in a […]

And the beautiful sublimated ribbon is a mash-up of the US Stars & Stripes and the British Union Jack to celebrate Newt’s adventures finding fantastic beasts in America! We partnered with our friends at Mugglenet and Feltbeats to bring you […]

The four separate 3″ house medals connect via magnets to form one HUGE 6″ x 6″ medal with the OneHRC “keystone” in the middle…which can be used as a keychain! In honor of our four HRC Houses, the #OneHRC House Marathon has FOUR Charity Partners. Each of them are […]

The Half-Blood Prince Half Marathon
Our third event of 2016 was the Half-Blood Prince Half Marathon: a celebration of Snape and our beloved, Alan Rickman, the man who brought Snape to life. While the timing of this event was purely coincidence, we cannot ignore the fact that we lost our Half-Blood Prince, Alan Rickman, to pancreatic cancer in January. Hence, it is in his honor that the proceeds from this event went to support Project Purple…a team of runners dedicated to defeating pancreatic cancer, raising […]

Umbridge Run 13k
Our second event of 2016 was The Final Inaugural “I Must Not Tell Lies” Dolores Jane Umbridge Run 13kโฆOr until it sinks in! Letโs just call it โThe Umbridge Runโ for short, shall we? How does one celebrate (or mock!) the one character that everyone loves to hate? With a pretty, pink cat plate, of course! Actually, itโs a HUGE pretty, pink cat plateโฆ.4โ in diameter! This one-of-a-kind, two-sided medal also features a magical, MOVING cat! Itโs the truth! One […]

Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs are proud to present this beautiful two-sided medal features transparent blue epoxy fill for “Prongs” and is, quite simply, HUGE. At 5″ by 4″, it is the largest medal we have ever presented. Many thanks to HRC member and 2014 Perfect Prefect, Ricky Bruner, who designed this amazing medal. In order to have been eligible to register for this medal, you must have registered […]

Patronus 5k
Our sixth event of 2015 was the Patronus 5k! This medal features Snape’s doe patronus leading you through the Forest of Dean. Our 2015 season started with Dementors and it ends with the means to defend against them. A Patronus can only be conjured by focusing on one’s happiest memories and finding the light amidst the darkness. Therefore, it is most appropriate that all proceeds from this event will support theย Noah’s Light Foundationย in their pursuit of a cure for pediatric […]

Platform Year Two
Our fifth event of 2015 was the Platform Year Two. This virtual run brought back the most popular event from HRC’s first year, with new artwork on the medal’s back showing Harry’s adventure getting to school in his second year! Dept. of Mysteries 6.2442k
Our fourth event of 2015 was The Department of Mysteries 6.2442! Why 6.2442? Because if you dial that number on a phone, it spells “MAGIC!” And, 6.2442 miles is just few meters longer than a 10k. Our charity partner for this event was the Brotherhood Ride, a Florida-based group of firefighters, police officers and EMTs who ride bicycles to honor those who have died in the line of duty. These volunteers ride hundreds of miles on or near the anniversary […]

Voldemort V-Miler
Third Event of 2015 was the Voldemort V-Miler.ย That’s “V” as in “5” miles of dark and foreboding virtual running.ย All participants received a one-of-a-kind 3″ medal which features a spinning Dark Mark that glows in the dark! All proceeds from this event will go to support Achilles International, an incredible organization with one simple mission: To enable people with all types of disabilities to participate in mainstream athletics in order to promote personal achievement, enhance self esteem, and lower barriers […]

Dementor’s Kiss 5k
Our first event of 2015 was a twisted nod to Valentine’s Day with two Dementor’s giving one (un)lucky soul a little kiss: The Dementor’s Kiss 5k! The Dementor’s Kiss 5k supportedย Miles for Cystic Fibrosis…an Atlanta-based running organization that raises awareness of CF, sponsors CF research, and directly supports local families dealing with this terrible disease. Triwizard Challenge
Our sixth event for 2014 was the Tri-Wizard Challenge event. The Goblet of Fire has selected you as a Tri-Wizard Champion and has given you a maximum of three daunting tasks to complete! The Tri-Wizard Challenge was a 5k, 10k, and/or a 15k. The “OR” is very important! It means you could complete one of the distances, or do all three for an impressive total of 30k! Also, you could complete the distances with a “team.” Get someone to join […]

Platform Year One
Our fifth event of 2014 was the inaugural Platform event. It’s back-to-school time! What a better way to celebrate going back to school than to celebrate the Hogwarts Express?ย And to address all those runners who worried that a ten-kilometer run would be a bit much at that point in the year, we responded: if you can’t run a 10k, certainly you can run a 9 3/4k, can’t you? Hence the first iteration of this now annual event was born. […]

Hedwig Memorial Run 5k
Our fourth event of 2014 was the Hedwig Memorial Run 5k. The Hedwig Memorial Run 5k is in honor of one of the most bravest characters in the Harry Potter series. The contribution in the 2014 donation total was $10,670. In 2015, HRC relaunched the 2014 medals during 2015 Time Turner and the […]

Chamber of Secrets 10k

As a nod to the second book in the Harry Potter series, we opened upon something dangerous and foreboding…a distance that increased to ten kilometers! All proceeds from the 2014 inaugural season supported The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund in the battle against pediatric cancer. The contribution in the 2014 donation total was $10,670. In 2015, HRC relaunched the 2014 medals during 2015 Time Turner and the […]
