The impact of the global pandemic has been felt from one corner of the globe to the other, from families to businesses, from government agencies to the performing arts, from close-knit communities to casual acquaintances.
And what of sporting organizations? What — quite particularly — of an organization that plays and champions a sport near and dear to those who know the “magical” feeling of a hard-fought victory on the pitch? If the local and regional shutdowns had an equally detrimental impact on this beloved sport, what could be done to get them back on their brooms?
Our charity partner for the next PHRC event is US Quidditch!
US Quidditch (USQ) is a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to governing the sport of quidditch and advancing the sport by organizing events and programs that build community and empower all adult and youth athletes of all identities, including all races and genders, to compete together.
Founded in 2010, US Quidditch serves an average of 3,500 athletes and 150 teams each season nationwide and provides a range of programs and services. These include hosting regional and national championships; supervising regular season competition; supporting and certifying referees, snitches, and tournament directors; offering grants; and working to expand the sport into younger age groups through outreach programs at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
This event’s proceeds will support USQ as they return to organizing regional and nationwide competitions, continue their youth education programs, and implement new diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, such as a new membership grant program for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color players.
Join us tomorrow at 12:00pm Eastern for the reveal of the event theme, and get ready to lift those brooms for USQ!
