You can be kind at any time.

When we tell people about the positive change our community makes in the world, they’re always curious to know how we find the charity partners we support. It’s a wonderful thing to reply to them that in nearly every instance since our founding, the ideas to support those organizations came from our members. And why wouldn’t we do that? Those members — each of you — share our love of combining fandom and philanthropy to do So Much Good. They come from every corner of the planet, and have social circles that introduce them to charitable efforts we may never have discovered on our own. That’s a rare use of the crowdsourcing idea: the Castle helps us find the next charity partner, and then rallies to do incredible things for them.

To the outside world, that may seem pretty…random. We’re okay with that. We’re not the only non-profit who has discovered how powerful this really is.

Potterhead Running Club is thrilled to announce that the charity partner for the first event of 2020 is Random Acts!

In December of 2009, actor Misha Collins went to Twitter to ask his followers to come up with ideas for a philanthropic project. With lighthearted and fun encouragement, his caring fans raised over $30,000 to help UNICEF’s aid efforts in Haiti. Over the course of that experience, a website and online community was formed that leveraged both the inherent good, and the philanthropic ideas, of tens of thousands of people around the globe. By 2010, a brand new non-profit organization was formed, poised to conquer the world with kindness.

For the past decade, Random Acts has been giving rise to amazing things around the world every day. From small gestures, like inspiring someone to buy a stranger a cup of coffee, to much bigger acts of kindness such as building a school in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, all of these acts of kindness contribute to a bigger story, a message that Random Acts embodies and promotes: that you too can conquer the world, one random act of kindness at a time.

Our support of Random Acts will fund dozens of Sponsored Acts of Kindness. People submit their awesome ideas (that they cannot personally afford) for a potential act of kindness, and Random Acts coordinates the funding!

Tomorrow at 12:00pm ET, the first virtual run event of the 2020 PHRC season will be unveiled…get ready to sign up, lace up, and show the world that kindness will always win!
