Announcing: The Stage 5k Clinger!

Take yourself back to January of 2017…

In an effort to provide everyone a schedule of events for the year, a “fake” schedule was published with six absolutely-not-real event names. But one of those fake events developed an unexpected and passionate following in the Castle. The students have spoken…

Potterhead Running Club is pleased to present our first event of 2019: The Stage 5k Clinger!

You asked for it. You begged for it. You threatened to burn the Castle to the ground if you didn’t get it…and here it is!

We are starting off our Sixth Year with a celebration of the relationship between Lav-Lav and Won-Won. Lavender Brown was the very first Gryffindor sorted when the Trio arrived at Hogwarts and was one of Hermione’s roommates for six whole years (we are truly impressed Hermione didn’t crack long before Year Six). Despite the giggles and squeals, we love our Lavender and wouldn’t want her any other way.

Your registration includes this awesome 3″ transparent frosted medal, custom sublimated ribbon, and the always popular personalized digital bib!

In honor of our Half-Blood Prince.

Three years ago, in loving memory of Alan Rickman, the largest event in our history raised critical funds for a first-of-it’s kind pancreatic cancer clinical trial that is literally saving lives today.

(And we know it’s really “on the nose”, but Lavender is a shade of purple, so…)

Potterhead Running Club is proud to announce the charity partner for this event is Project Purple! We are beginning our Sixth Year honoring our Half-Blood Prince by once again partnering with Project Purple to join the fight to find a cure for pancreatic cancer and improve the lives of patients through support, hope, and compassion.

What is a “Clinger”, you ask?

Lavender got herself quite the reputation for her devotion to and concern for Ron, as she clearly demonstrated to Harry in hospital visit, after visit, after visit…

So don’t forget your “Clinger” event shirt! All proceeds go to support Project Purple, and you can get your shirt in multiple styles including wicking sport tech cloth, or long-sleeve hoodies!

The suggested run date for the Stage 5k Clinger is Wednesday, February 6th on Arthur Weasley’s birthday. Remember, this is only a fun suggestion. You are welcome to complete your 5 kilometers whenever and however you want!

Registration closes at midnight on February 10th (or early morning on the 11th depending on your Time Zone). All medals will be mailed on Monday, February 18th.

Announcing: Platform Year Five!

Our Sixth Event of 2018!

It’s back! Our annual event returns to celebrate Harry’s fifth year returning to Hogwarts!

We’ve revamped the look, and added beautiful new artwork representing Harry’s adventures: the Dementor attack; the Howler; facing the Wizengamot (and Umbridge); his very first trip to 12 Grimmauld Place. Your registration includes this iconic 3″ medal, custom sublimated ribbon, and your own personalized digital bib!

The Hogwarts Express takes children home. It took an orphan home…and we’re going to do the same! Hogwarts Running Club is humbled to announce the charity partner for this event is RODS – Racing for Orphans with Down Syndrome. RODS’ mission is simple. They promote the adoption of orphans with Down syndrome by raising adoption grant funds, one child at a time, and by participating in organized, athletic races and awareness events. They literally run for orphans! The funds they raise cover a large portion of the expense to get children from orphanages in the developing world to forever homes in the US and Canada. RODS’ target for each child is $15,000. The Headmaster cast an arithmancy spell, and divined the magic number of registrations required to cover the adoption of one orphan: 975.

Wait a minute. 975 registrations? 975 — 9.75 — 9 3/4! Okay, that has to be magic.

Hogwarts Running Club has selected SEVEN orphans to support. Ladies and Gentlemen of HRC, we’d like you to meet Conner, Penny, Keane, Zoey, Parker John, Margaret and Xena.

We’re 100% certain we can support five and almost positive we can achieve six…but reaching for the seventh will take a record-breaking effort…and we think you can do it!! If we are successful, seven beautiful children will get out of orphanages and to their forever families. This event is literally saving lives.

Visit rods.org to see their success stories and get a glimpse of the future for these seven kiddos!

We’re also excited to have a co-sponsor for this event! Ragnar is joining forces with HRC to help spread the word and let know people about our effort to get these seven kids to their forever homes!

And don’t forget your event shirt! “The shirt with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches”? Well, maybe not…but it’s a super fun twist on Year Five and the prophecy of the Chosen One. All proceeds go to support RODS and our orphans!

The suggested run date for Platform Year Five is Wednesday, September 12th, the anniversary of Harry’s first flying lesson and the day he became the Gryffindor seeker! Remember, this is only a fun suggestion. You are welcome to complete your 9.75 kilometers (6.058 miles) whenever you want!

Registration closes at midnight on September 23rd (or early morning on the 24th depending on your time zone). All medals will be mailed on Monday, October 1st.

Announcing: The Royal 10k!

Our Fifth Event of 2018!

Dumbledore wasn’t the only one who had “style”. The future Minister for Magic was a critical member of the Order of the Phoenix: Kingsley Shacklebolt!

One of the greatest Aurors ever, he helped keep Sirius’ location a secret from the Ministry, saved the members of the D.A. during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, and bravely fought at the Battle of Hogwarts. After Voldemort came to power, he went into hiding, but remained active in the resistance effort, contributing to the Potterwatch radio broadcast under the alias: “Royal”.

In honor of all of his incredible magical efforts, we are using our fifth event to celebrate Kingsley Shacklebolt with an illustrious 3-inch medal, a beautiful sublimated ribbon, and Kingsley-themed digital bib!

Kingsley Shacklebolt showed us that with strong leadership skills, determination, and courage, you can change the world.

Hogwarts Running Club is pleased to announce the charity partner for this event is All Star Code! All Star Code is a nonprofit computer science education organization focused on giving young, intelligent, driven men of color access to the necessary skills to become part of the growing tech world. Few organizations prepare this underserved group for careers in innovations and technology. So, in honor of the most significant HP character of color, HRC is helping All Star Code fund an entire ‘cohort’ of 20 young men of color, enabling them to complete their Summer Intensive Program in 2019.

And don’t forget your event shirt! Join the Department of Magical Movement (Running Division), and the funds will go to support All Star Code!

The suggested run date for the Royal 10k is Wednesday, August 1st, the anniversary of the Fall of the Ministry and the date of Kingsley’s warning to all at Bill and Fleur’s wedding that allowed so many to survive. Remember, this is only a fun suggestion. You are welcome to complete your 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) whenever and however you want!

Registration closes at midnight on August 19th (or early morning on the 20th, depending on your time zone). All medals will be mailed on Monday, August 27th.
