2018 DIP Hat Drive Results

We Got This Sorted.

When the entire castle sets out on a mission, woe be unto those who question their dedication.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
When the mission is to help the homeless with the gift of warmth around the holiday season, you can essentially tell the world, “Hey. Hold my butterbeer.”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We presented you this winter with our 2018 Direct Impact Project, and challenged you to a hat drive. Knowing that you never shy away from such endeavors, we set the bar aggressively high: 20,000 knit hats to be collected at points around the world, to be distributed directly to shelters and facilities that would get them to those who need them with all speed. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We encouraged all our houses to meet certain goals, and rallied ‘counting elves’ to volunteer at the collection points to make sure everything was in order. We gave you three weeks.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
YOU COLLECTED 41,835 HATS.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
From the contributions of each house, to our beloved faculty beasts, the bags upon boxes upon cases of hats poured in like a woolen flood. You’ve done an incredible thing, and for that, our hats…are off to you!⁣⁣
⁣⁣
??‍??‍? 35 (we love our faculty!)⁣⁣
?❤️ 3,692 (856% of goal)⁣⁣
?? 5,895 (1,420% of goal)⁣⁣
?? 11,899 (1,047% of goal)⁣⁣
?? 19,857 (1,633% of goal)⁣⁣
⁣⁣
…and 7 fleece hats that weren’t counted for points, but nonetheless donated.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We’ve never doubted the #somuchgood that this amazing community can accomplish…but when you DOUBLE the target number? That’s beyond the scope of awesome.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
THANK YOU ALL for making the DIP challenge such an overwhelming success, and bringing the 2018 year to a close on a high note!!!⁣⁣

2018 Direct Impact Project #2: Knit Hat Drive

Let’s Get This Sorted!

The winter Direct Impact Project Competition of 2018 is now open!

Over the last three years, the Witches and Wizards of HRC have come together to donate scarves, socks, coffee, animal shelter supplies, humanitarian aid items, and, of course, a whole lot of bandages! It’s time to make some magic again!

There is no specific charity beneficiary for this Direct Impact Project (DIP) like we had for bandages (Noah’s Bandage Project) or humanitarian aid (Carry the Future). This DIP is all about showing strangers kindness with a simple but incredibly important gift.

The final Direct Impact Project for 2018 will be donating warm, knit winter hats for the homeless!

Project Dates

Monday, 26 November to Friday, 14 December. Packages must be postmarked no later than 12 December and received at collection points no later than 14 December to count for House Points. See the full details in the rules (posted on Facebook in the "HRC Great Hall" closed group, or email us at media@rantue.org for a copy.)

Items to Be Donated

Knit caps, knit hats, knit beanies, or ”toques” (pom-poms are fine!).

Overall Donation Goal

20,000 hats for the homeless!

House Point Scoring & Goals

2 hats = 1 point or 1 hat = ½ point. House Goals for this DIP are in the full rules (again, email media@rantue.org for that rules document), but we want you to know that the goals have been reduced for all houses by about 30%. We know it's the holidays and funds/time can be tight, so we took that into account. That said, we fully expect HRC/PHRC to blow the 20,000-hat goal out of the water!

Donation Specifications

Hats should be knit, warm winter hats. They can be purchased, made by hand, or donated from your closet. See the rules document for complete specifications and examples of acceptable hats.

Collection Point Locations

We have organized several HRC/PHRC members at EIGHT locations around the world. They have volunteered to receive the hats and organize distribution to local shelters and charities who will get the hats to those in need. There are five locations in the US, and one each in Canada, Europe and Australia. To find out YOUR regional Collection Point address, simply email us at media@rantue.org, and we'll reply with specific information. (Likewise, addresses for Collection Points will be posted in our closed Facebook groups only, and should NOT be posted elsewhere on social media. Please respect our awesome volunteers. Thank you!)

Time to join forces with your House and “let’s get this sorted!”
