Our Next Charity Partner: Project Purple!

In memory of Alan, and for everyone fighting pancreatic cancer.

First: a brief story.⁣

It was just another Thursday morning. Random Tuesday had only one running club, we’d just celebrated reaching 25,000 members, and we were two days away from launching the ‘Molly Weasley Ugly Jumper Run’. It was January 14th, 2016. Our day was shattered with the news that we had lost our beloved Half-Blood Prince, Alan Rickman. We immediately held a run in his honor, but we spent the next several weeks looking for a way to honor him in a more meaningful way. We did.⁣

The single-largest event in our history was the ‘Half Prince Half Marathon’ in 2016. The donation from that event resulted in a first-of-its-kind clinical trial at the University of Nebraska that now has 76 people in it. While these 76 individuals are at higher risk of getting pancreatic cancer due to their genetics, they are now getting screened/tested every six months in an effort to detect pancreatic cancer as early as possible. And early detection is the only way to survive pancreatic cancer. We are literally saving lives three years later.⁣

So why this story?⁣

This is our Sixth Year. This is our Half-Blood Prince Year.⁣

How can we start this year any other way?⁣

Ladies and Gentlemen of Potterhead Running Club, we are pleased to announce that our first charity partner for our Sixth Year…our Half-Blood Prince Year…is an old friend. The Charity Partner for Event #1 is Project Purple! 💜⁣

Their mission is simple: Defeat Pancreatic Cancer.⁣

So, to honor Alan and all those we’ve lost to this disease, we are once again joining Project Purple in the fight to find a cure for pancreatic cancer and improve the lives of patients through support, hope, and compassion.⁣

Come back tomorrow at noon EST, when we unveil the unbelievable opening event of the 2019 season!

Our Next Charity Partner: RODS Racing!

Hogwarts Running Club has definitely done #somuchgood over the years. We’ve helped the homeless, we’ve supported refugees, we’ve put legs on amputees, and we’ve eradicated a debilitating disease from an entire country. But this time it’s different. This time we’re not just going to change lives; we’re literally going to save lives.

Hogwarts Running Club is humbled to announce the charity partner for this event is RODS: Racing for Orphans with Down Syndrome! Their mission is simple: they promote the adoption of orphans with Down Syndrome by raising adoption grant funds, one child at a time, and by participating in organized, athletic races and awareness events. They literally run for orphans! The funds they raise cover a large portion of the expense to get children from orphanages in the developing world to forever homes in the US and Canada.

You can learn more about them at rods.org.

Last year, our sister club Whovian Running Club, raised enough funds for one incredible boy named Charlie to get to his forever home. RODS was such an incredible charity partner, we felt we could do even more.

We are 100% certain we can get enough registrations to save five of these amazing children. Getting to six will take some work, but it shouldn’t be a problem. But our goal is SEVEN…and that will take a near-record-breaking effort. But we know you can do it!

Hogwarts Running Club has selected SEVEN orphans to that we are going to get to their forever homes. Over the next few days we’re going to introduce you to Conner, Penny, Keane, Zoey, Parker John, Margaret, and Xena. These three boys and four girls ARE going to get to their forever homes. We will not fail them. We believe in the magic of HRC and we WILL reach our goal.

Registration for Event #6 opens tomorrow at noon EDT.

Let’s get these kids home!

Our 2018 Event Five Charity Partner: All Star Code

The Muggle-world is in the midst of an innovation revolution. New devices, applications and other innovations are being created every day…almost like magic.

But there is one group that is getting left behind in learning the skills to “cast” that magic: increasing professional access and STEM education for young men of color is vital to the overall future of the tech sector as well as minority communities.

Hogwarts Running Club is pleased to announce that the charity partner for Event #5 is All Star Code!

All Star Code is a nonprofit computer science education organization focused on giving young, intelligent, driven men of color access to necessary skills so they can be part of the growing tech world. Few organizations prepare this underserved group for careers in innovations and technology, but All Star Code is focused on their futures. They host a 6-week Summer Intensive program (160 young men in 2018)that gives young men of color the computer science skills and confidence they need to kick start a future in technology and innovation. The program is divided into 20-student “cohorts” that get absolutely top-notch instruction from experts…and it’s completely free for the students.

HRC’s goal is to fund an entire “cohort” of 20 young men of color so they can complete All Star Code’s Summer Intensive Program in 2019. We can only accomplish this goal with your help! Check back tomorrow, July 21, at noon EDT for the launch of our fifth event of 2018. Sign up, and help 20 young men reach for their dreams!
